Can you do 40 push-ups in one minute?

Written By: Dr. Justin Yang, Medical Director

February is Heart Health Month. One way to take care of your heart is by being physically active.

Did you know that a recent study found that the number of push-ups a person can do might be a quick, simple and easy way to assess one's heart health?

The study, conducted by Pelago's Medical Director Dr. Yang and his group of researchers at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, revealed that people who could do more than 40 push-ups had a significantly lower risk of heart disease outcomes over the next 10 years compared to those who could do less than 10 push-ups.

This means that being able to do more push-ups might indicate a healthier heart.

The study, which received worldwide media attention when it was published, suggests that push-up capacity could be a no-cost method to help assess cardiovascular disease risk. It's a simple and quick way to get an idea of your heart health.

Let us know if you give it a try and see how many push-ups you can do in one minute!
