Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most common and best studied forms of therapy. Pelago content is designed with CBT in mind.

The basic principle is always the same: what we think, how we feel and how we behave are all closely connected – and all of these factors have a decisive influence on our well-being.

What can I accomplish from CBT?

  • Changes in thinking patterns

    • Learning to recognize one’s distortions in thinking that are creating problems

    • Using problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations

    • Learning to develop a greater sense of confidence in one’s own abilities

  • Changes in behavioral patterns

    • Facing one’s fears instead of avoiding them

    • Learning to calm one’s mind and relax one’s body

  • Learning of new skills

    • Through conversations during sessions as well as “homework” exercises outside of sessions, members are helped to develop coping skills and learn to change their own thinking, problematic emotions, and behavior.

Not all CBT will use all of these strategies. Pelago members will work with their Counselors to develop an understanding of the problem and to develop strategies and goals to success.

Medical Providers & Medication

Although there are no FDA-approved medications to treat cannabis use disorder, our medical providers are here for you to help manage physical symptoms you may be experiencing from cannabis withdrawal. Symptoms may include:

  • Anxiety

  • Restlessness or irritability

  • Depressive symptoms

  • Headaches

  • Dizziness

  • Night sweats

If you begin to experience any of the above, or any other physical discomfort, please reach out to your counselor or member support team to get scheduled with a medical provider for our next available appointment. Our medical providers are here to evaluate your symptoms and work with you to find the best approaches to ease any discomfort you may be feeling.

How do I get started?

In order to be prescribed medication, members must virtually meet with a medical provider to be evaluated accordingly.

During the first appointment, if a Pelago Provider finds it necessary to prescribe you medication, you will receive your first prescription. During this appointment, you will work together to develop a treatment plan that is right for you and will have regular check-in’s to evaluate how everything is going. Your prescriptions will be sent to your local pharmacy.
